10 Unlikely Movie Sequels That Were Surprisingly Awesome

1. Fast Five

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIiRIeCEaI4 So, it's possible for the fourth film in a franchise to be the best against extreme odds, but what about the fifth? The Fast and the Furious series hasn't exactly been the hallmark of quality action filmmaking over the years; the first film was a passable time-waster with some fun action, the second film was dire, the third film had a fresh twist with the Tokyo setting and casting the talented Lucas Black as the protagonist, but the fourth film was a wholly generic detective film that employed way too much CGI during the chase sequences. Fast Five, however, changed everything. Repurposing the tone of the franchise from films aimed at car enthusiasts to instead those who enjoy a good heist thriller, the series earned easily the best reviews of its tenure, as well as the highest box office gross of any of the five films by a massive margin of over $250m compared to the previous film. The film was widely praised for the casting of Dwayne Johnson and for its ludicrous climactic set-piece, which saw the rogue racers dragging a bank vault through the streets of Rio de Jeneiro. This entry might have to be corrected in a few month's time, however, because Fast and Furious 6 looks like it might be even better. Which unlikely sequel surprised you the most with its quality?
