10 Unmade Tim Burton Films That Would Have Been Awesome

7. Black Sunday

After the debacle over the failure of Superman Lives (more on that later) in the late nineties Burton was looking for a new project. One option he considered was a remake of cult Italian horror film Black Sunday, directed by European horror legend Mario Bava.

Made in 1960 and starring horror queen Barbara Steele, the original is often included on lists of the greatest horror films ever. While that doesn't sound like it is crying out for a remake it still would have been fascinating to see Burton's version of the classic, as he is known to rank it amongst his favourite films. In fact, featuring witchcraft, stylized gore and iron maidens, the ideas of Black Sunday clearly inspired the film Burton eventually made around this time, his first fully-fledged horror film Sleepy Hollow.
