8. Steven Spielberg Is The Most Overrated Director Of All Time

Speaking of Steven Spielberg, there's absolutely no denying that he's given audiences a bevy of incredible movies, from Jaws to Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T., Jurassic Park, Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan.

Those movies alone will cement Spielberg in the annals of film history forever, but when considering the much-ballyhooed claim that he's the greatest filmmaker of all time, it's crucial to consider the absolute entirety of his filmography.

Simply put, Spielberg rarely makes a bad film, but let's be honest: it's felt like he's been running on fumes for the last, oh, 15 years or so.

War of the Worlds, Tintin, War Horse, Lincoln, The Post and Ready Player One are all fine movies that nevertheless feel too comfortable and, yes, soulless to be true triumphs from a master craftsman.

The director's last undisputed masterpiece was Saving Private Ryan back in 1998, and though he's directed over a dozen films since then, most of them have just settled for being "pretty good" or "OK."

Is it complacency or merely the work of an older filmmaker whose life perspective has shifted ever more sentimental? Either way, though Spielberg has made inimitable contributions to cinema, the back half of his career is just too inconsistent for him to be considered the GOAT.

Plus, with Martin Scorsese still releasing consistent classics with all the verve of a man half his age, Spielberg was never really going to measure up.
