10 Unspeakably Awful Films Made By Oscar Winners

2. Surfer, Dude

Surfer Dude Matthew McConaughey
Anchor Bay Entertainment

You can have three guesses about which Oscar winner starred in Surfer, Dude, but you'll probably only need one. If you said Matthew McConaughey, congratulations, you're right, but also it is super obvious that he would be in a movie like this.

Equally unsurprising: Woody Harrelson appears alongside him. And what's truly offensive about this movie is that thanks to True Detective, we now know how great a McConaughey/Harrelson collaboration can be, yet they still felt OK about subjecting the world to this.

Surfer, Dude, is the story of a surfer (dude) who goes into a full on existential meltdown after there are no righteous waves at his beach for over a month. The stuff of Shakespeare, truly.

Harrelson refers to this movie as the most "non-work" he's ever done, and it currently has an impressive 0% on Rotten Tomatoes. But what's so crazy is that this movie didn't come out in the 1990s or something - this was a 2008 vehicle, just a few short years before McConaughey's career reboot as a serious actor.
