10 Unused Film Endings That Were Better Than The Real Thing

2. Little Shop Of Horrors Was, Too

Frank Oz's big-screen adaptation of the mega-successful stage musical (itself adapted by an older low-budget B-movie) was pretty faithful to its source material. All of the songs were there, altered only slightly. They didn't bring over the cast from the off-Broadway show, but they managed pretty well with the likes of Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene and Steve Martin regardless. Where they found a problem was with the ending. Originally, they shot a 23-minute finale that was the same as the stage musical, and test audiences hated it. So, if you've seen the film of Little Shop Of Horrors, you'll know that it ends rather happily, with the carnivorous plant Audrey revealed as an alien invader, and killed by Moranis. There's a hint of darkness when a Audrey-esque plant is seen growing in his front garden after, but that's nothing compared to that original finale. As in the Broadway show, the giant evil plant ate all of the principal cast, the Statue Of Liberty, and the audience. Which is way cooler, quite frankly.
