10 Upcoming Animated Sequels No One Asked For

2. The LEGO Movie 2

Wasn't The LEGO Movie awesome? What looked like another dull entry in the growing range of desperate feature length toy commercials ended up being one of the most creative and insightful films of the year. Rather than spending ninety minutes throwing toys in front of kids (although many of the models from the film are available to buy), the film was something tailored to the LEGO brand in particular; all about embracing your imagination, it really embodies the ethos of the plastic building blocks/foot jammers. If Warner Bros. go all in against How To Train Your Dragon 2, they may even get an Oscar out of it. So why wouldn't we want a sequel to such an awesome film? Because it's unnecessary. Nothing can top the surprise of how freshly irreverent the film is and it's ace, that it's events are all being orchestrated by a child playing with his father's displays, couldn't be replicated in any meaningful way. And with directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller taking a step back to be just producers, The LEGO Movie 2 (please come up with a better name) has literally no chance if coming close to matching the first. We underestimated the first film and would be ecstatic to say in a couple of years the sequel likewise proves us won't, but deep down we know that can't happen.
