10 Upcoming Animated Sequels No One Asked For

9. Minions

You may be a little confused with this one; didn't we get a Minions film last year? It may have really felt like it, but Despicable Me 2 wasn't meant to be just about the gibberish-spouting henchmen - there were some vague super-heroics thrown in there too. We'll get the full feature outing for the yellow things next summer. A prequel to the original film, it will look at what the minions did before meeting Gru, which we can imagine will be a mixture of laughing, hitting each other and saying funny words amidst a hastily thrown together plot. If that sounds like we're being harsh, we should probably clarify that we like the idea of the minions, but their blanket execution has already made them tired. As evidenced by the sheer amount of merchandise out there (which is based on a film they were meant to be supporting characters in), the actual humour of them is second to how much five year olds like them. And while that's great for five year olds, everyone else just has to sit there while Universal milk their one animated success for all they've got. Hopefully this will at least get their obsession out of the way before returning to the more interesting Gru in the third Despicable Me.
