9. Gravity (Oct 4)
Budget: $80 million
Predicted Box Office: $70 million
Why It's Going To Bomb: There is no film this year that I want to believe in more than Alfonso Cuaron's staggeringly ambitious sci-fi venture Gravity, but the odds just aren't in his favour at all. Though the materials released so far are astounding in their visual appeal and sense of atmosphere, there has been much discussion online about the footage being unintentionally funny, largely because of Sandra Bullock's casting in such a strange role, and her anguished screams as she spins around in space. While less-juvenile audiences hopefully won't care about that, it's going to be an uphill struggle to measure up to its $80 million budget, even with a name like George Clooney attached to it. Given that Cuaron's last daring venture, Children of Men, failed to ignite the box office despite a high budget, there's not much reason to expect any different here.
