10 Upcoming Comic Book Movies That Have Nothing To Do With Marvel Or DC
9. Beasts Of Burden
On the complete other side of the spectrum to Bloodshot's action movie aspirations is Beasts Of Burden, a series of stories about talking animals solving mysteries. Which may sound more like the sort of thing that belongs on CBBC, but in the hands of writer Evan Dorkin and artist Jill Thompson, it becomes so much more than that. Which of course means, something way scarier. Initially brought together when a local dog's house is haunted by the spectre of a murdered pup, the group five dogs named Ace, Rex, Jack, Whitey, and Pugsley, and a cat named Orphan convene with a shamanic council of other pooches and continue to solve supernatural mysteries in their neighbourhood. Arf. Basically, it's Homeward Bound, only with a lot more death, demons and witches. Thompson's painted art is stunning, and Dorkin manages to tone down the cynical impulses from a career in alternative comics to tell some genuinely sweet if occasionally brutal tales. 9 director Shane Acker is working on a CGI-animated adaptation, which should work just fine.
