10 Upcoming DC Movies And The Comics They'll Adapt
7. Black Adam
Comics: JSA (1999) by James Robinson, David S. Goyer, Geoff Johns, & Paul Levitz, Justice Society of America by Geoff Johns & Dale Eaglesham, 52 by Geoff Johns, Grant Morrison, Greg Rucka, Mark Waid, & Keith Giffen, New 52 Shazam by Geoff Johns & Gary Frank, Shazam (2018-) by Geoff Johns, Dale Eaglesham, & Scott Kolins
Black Adam’s position in the DC Universe is rather interesting, he’s one of the few characters who is inexplicably tied to another, but has been written as a threat to the world at large that he almost doesn’t have to appear fighting Shazam to be interesting (although let’s be real, he’s definitely going to fight Shazam).
Shazam gave us a quick spark notes version of Black Adam’s origins in the first half of the movie, but this can easily be expanded upon and the New 52 Justice League backup features starring Shazam gave us a great explanation for how Black Adam gained the Wizard’s blessing.
But going back to how Black Adam can be a threat to the entire world, the weekly series 52 does a phenomenal job of developing the character in a way that feels natural and has us sympathize with the character even when he starts World War III. And what better team to stop Black Adam and save the world, while also proving Warner Bros. and DC are committed to more light hearted films, than the Golden Age’s Justice Society of America?
All the books above are great examples of how Black Adam serves great as a villain for the world and for the hero with best catchphrase ever, speaking of Shazam!...
