3. The Mummy
I've never met anyone who doesn't love Stephen Sommers' The Mummy, which is itself a remake of a film of the same title made some 67 years before this 1999 box office smash hit (the ideal amount of time between remakes, in my opinion). Even the second one, whilst not as good and boasting worse effects than its predecessor, is a wonderfully fun action adventure film with a charismatic and lovable leading man and a charing supporting lady. The less said about the third film the better. A fourth film was supposed to be made in Sommers' series, but after the complete failure of Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (that foolishly lacked any mummies, plans were rightfully abandoned. However, soon after, somebody decided to reboot the franchise once again. Since its announcement in 2012, the reboot has switched between different writers and directors, the latest of which being the aforementioned Len Wiseman (smart move). However, despite the troubles to get the reboot onto solid ground, Universal is yet to give up, as it was recently announced that Mama director Andres Muschietti had entered talks to direct. There have been virtually no rumours regarding casting, but the only way I think fans of the 1999 version would be interested would be if stars such as Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, and John Hannah were to return. But seeing as Weisz was wise enough not to return for Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, it's highly unlikely that any of the original cast will return for the reboot unless a pricey pay cheque was involved.
