10 Upcoming Horror Movie Castings That Have Us Excited
1. Nicolas Cage -- Renfield
The performance we have been waiting a lifetime for is finally on its way: Nicolas Cage as Dracula.
Releasing later this year, Chris McKay's Renfield will see Nicholas Hoult as the subservient titular lackey in a contemporary take on the Dracula tale, trying to find a work-life balance while in thrall to the Count. And it couldn't be more perfect. Cage is vocal about his love for classic gothic horrors The Cabinet of Dr Caligari (1920) and Nosferatu (1922), and has previous in the vampire genre after playing a stockbroker who thinks he is one of the undead in Vampire's Kiss (1988), providing what is one of his most gloriously meme-able performances.
Thus, it was only a matter of time before the zany off-Hollywood star found his way into a role that could unite his passions, talents and eccentricities. And what better way to do it, as this represents Cage's biggest production in years, having spent the majority of his time since being a late-nineties/early-noughties action man starring in three or more straight-to-video or limited release productions per year.
He will be over-the-top, he will chew every piece of scenery in sight, and you can bet your bottom dollar he will "ooh", "ahh" and "raahhh" his way through the performance, but that is precisely what makes this casting so good. Hammer horror, eat your heart out.
