10 Upcoming Horror Movie Castings That Have Us Excited

7. Ashley Madekwe -- The Strays

Renfield Nicolas Cage

Ashley Madekwe is one of the lesser-known talents on this list, but that's by no means a comment on her abilities. Most of her work has been done on the small screen, including a starring role in supernatural horror Salem and thriller series Tell Me A Story -- so it's safe to say she's no stranger to this end of the genre spectrum. As such, she makes a welcome addition to the cast of Netflix horror movie The Strays.

Netflix has found something of a niche in horror recently, primarily with limited series, but there have been a few good films in there -- and this could be the next. A suburban horror blending elements of Smile (2022) and Get Out (2016), actor Nathaniel Martello-White's debut as a writer-director promises a chilling intersection of gaslighting, madness, and themes of race and belonging.

Madekwe's most recent film part to date saw her take a supporting role in Henry Blake's coming-of-age social drama County Lines (2019), for which she received BIFA and BAFTA nominations. If she brings any ounce of the same skill to The Strays, it is certain to be a winner.
