9. Nobody Wants To Release It - The Toxic Avenger Remake

Scream VI
Troma

After being shot in the summer of 2021, Macon Blair's remake of classic Troma film The Toxic Avenger had its belated premiere at Fantastic Fest 2023, where it scored predominantly positive reviews from critics. But over a year later, the film is still awaiting release and has only additionally screened at two other genre film festivals, the last of which was back in October 2023.

Despite solid reviews and starring Peter Dinklage in the lead role, reports state that distributors have dubbed the film "unreleasable" due to its niche subject matter and gory content, deeming it "too out there" for a theatrical release. And so, The Toxic Avenger is trapped in an awkward and frustrating state of limbo, with no distributors biting as of yet.

While it's likely that the movie will end up on a streaming service at some point, it doesn't do the film's rep any favours at all that nobody's stepping up to support it. A sad fate for a film that, by most accounts, delivered on its promise.
