10 Upcoming Movie Reboots Literally Nobody Is Asking For
7. Highlander
To paraphrase the franchise's most famous quote, there really should have been only one.
Somehow, Highlander has endured for almost 35 years, despite initial sequel The Quickening being regarded as one of the worst movies ever made. After the original trilogy was brought to a close in 1994, we got a TV series that ran for a 119 episodes and spawned two movies and a small screen spinoff of its own, as well as an animated show and an anime adaptation.
A reboot has been in the works for well over a decade at this point, with multiple actors being linked to various roles including the truly terrifying prospect of Vinnie Jones as The Kurgan. The project has cycled through so much talent that its hard to even keep track of who's currently involved, although John Wick's Chad Stahelski has been attached to direct since November 2016 without much being made in the way of forward momentum.
Despite having a dedicated following, the Highlander franchise has never managed to ascend beyond cult status, and from the outside looking in it seems unclear exactly what audience a reboot of a time-traveling fantasy-based historical action series that never did huge business at the box office or fared particularly well with critics is supposed to be aimed at.
