10 Upcoming Movie Reboots Literally Nobody Is Asking For
5. The Green Hornet And Kato
The last time we saw the Green Hornet on our screens, the movie botched the undoubted potential that it had to stand out among the pack of identikit superhero movies that saturated the marketplace during the early 2010s.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind's Michel Gondry directing Seth Rogen as a playboy media magnate-turned-vigilante with a script from Rogen and regular collaborator Evan Golberg could have been a breath of fresh air for the genre, but instead failed to hit the heights many hoped for from such an unexpected group of collaborators.
Looking back, maybe they should have just hired Nicolas Cage and let him play the villain as a white Jamaican like he wanted to, because at least then maybe we would still be talking about the movie, which has since been largely forgotten.
Regardless, a reboot has been in the works since 2016, initially at Paramount with Warrior's Gavin O'Connor set to direct, before Universal ended up acquiring the rights earlier this year and swiftly announcing that Britt Reid's alter-ego was on his way back to the big screen as one half of The Green Hornet and Kato's title duo.
As The Lone Ranger will attest, big screen reboots of characters that made their debuts as the stars of 1930s radio shows don't always equate to success, especially with the barometer of quality in the superhero genre being set higher than ever in recent years.
