10 Upcoming Movie Remakes NOBODY Asked For

9. Road House

While hardly a critical darling on the level of Vertigo, 1989's Patrick Swayze-starring actioner Road House is an undeniable cult fave, and of course spawned one of Family Guy's most memorable recurring gags.

Despite grossing a relatively modest $60 million at the box office, Road House's enduring success on home video eventually led to discussion of a potential remake, and in 2015 Ronda Rousey was announced to star as a gender-swapped version of Swayze's bouncer protagonist, James Dalton.

This eventually fell through, however, and word went silent on a remake until 2021, when Jake Gyllenhaal was confirmed to star in a new take, with Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow) directing.

The film was shot in the latter half of last year and is due to release on Amazon Prime sometime in 2023, with the supporting cast being filled out by Conor McGregor, Billy Magnussen, and Daniela Melchior.

Gyllenhaal's updated version of Dalton will reportedly be a retired UFC fighter-turned-bouncer, and while there's no doubting Gyllenhaal's commitment to the physical aspects of the role, doesn't this feel like a huge waste of his and Liman's talents?

Road House was a movie that hit at just the right time and feels so thoroughly of its era, such that any attempt to recapture or even improve upon that vibe feels destined to fail. Plus, does anyone have any faith in Conor McGregor's ability to act?
