10 Upcoming Movie Roles That Are Completely Miscast

7. Barbie (Anne Hathaway) - Barbie

Anne Hathaway Les Miserables

In 2016, comedian Amy Schumer was cast in the upcoming live-action adaptation of Barbie, before dropping out earlier this year due to scheduling conflicts.

Soon after, she was replaced by Anne Hathaway, making this perhaps the most bizarre actress swap in recent memory. The project is still the same one that Schumer was set to star in, so how on earth is Anne Hathaway the right candidate to fill that void?

At face value, Schumer seems like a better fit to play Barbie. She can play that ditzy, dumb-blonde type with ease, and we've already seen her do it in numerous sketches and movies - she can do it, and she can do it convincingly.

But Hathaway... less so. She can do naive very, very well - as we saw in The Princess Diaries - but naive and ditzy are two completely different things. For Schumer, it would feel real, since she's made a living off playing that oddball blonde character. For Hathaway, it would feel forced, because that's not who she is.

It's a bit of a silly, goofy role for a confident, Oscar-winning actress to be taking on. She's allowed to have fun every now and then, of course, but this seems like it's beneath her.

Also... isn't Barbie traditionally blonde?
