After the Swedish film versions of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy and David Fincher’s English-language remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo comes The Girl In The Spider’s Web, which returns the characters Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist to the big screen.

Larsson died in 2004 so this fourth entry is based on a novel by David Lagercrantz, which ought to make viewers suspicious that they’re getting an imitation rather than the genuine article. Fincher’s movie made $230 million worldwide and won an Oscar for its editing but the proposed sequels (with Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara returning) never materialized so this “sequel” will ignore it and star Sverrir Gudnason and Claire Foy instead.

The director is Evil Dead’s Fede Alvarez, who doesn’t sound like the natural choice for a thriller about cyber criminals and government corruption. Audiences can decide for themselves when The Girl In The Spider’s Web hits theaters in November 2018.
