10 Upcoming Movies Studios Don't Know How To Market
7. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Another movie that should have been the easiest slam-dunk in the world for the studio and their marketing team, that they've somehow found a way to muck up. Jurassic Park is a beloved IP and the last film, Jurassic World, was widely loved by audiences. All the marketing for this film had to do was play on that a bit, tease some of the new and interesting angles they might be approaching from, and call it a day. Right?
Apparently not.
Instead, the studio released a first trailer that looked and felt like a generic and dumbed down version of every Jurassic sequel before it. They're going back to the island, and this time there's a secret volcano? That's really the approach you want to take, Universal? It was a poorly made, generic trailer that sparked an immediate social media backlash from a select group of fans.
Producer Colin Trevorrow took to Twitter to assuage some fears, claiming that everything in the trailer was only from the first half of the film and that there were still plenty of surprises in store.
So of course, Universal had to ruin that as well. Fearing that their first trailer may not have shown enough new material, a second trailer was released that spoiled the entirety of the second half of the film that Trevorrow had teased. To so quickly do a complete U-turn in the marketing and decide that what was once top-secret is now fair game to put on full-display shows is a rookie mistake that a franchise this successful should not be making.
