10 Upcoming Movies That Are Already Doomed

5. Mufasa: The Lion King

Though 2019's "live-action" remake of The Lion King was a stonking box office smash, grossing a scarcely believable $1.663 billion despite being utterly soulless slop, it's fair to say that Disney may have over-estimated mainstream interest in a prequel story.

All the same, Mufasa: The Lion King is due to release on December 20, 2024, with the great Barry Jenkins (Moonlight) inexplicably drafted in to helm what's hopefully a massive paycheck gig for him.

There's just so much working against this - James Earl Jones isn't voicing Mufasa, Disney's stock with audiences has massively fallen in recent times, and it's basically a movie nobody was really asking for. A Lion King prequel, after all this time, just sounds desperate as hell.

Even if Jenkins does manage to bring some heart to it, it's highly likely that Mufasa suffers an epic box office drop from the 2019 film, similar to those incurred by Alice Through the Looking Glass and, most recently, The Marvels.
