10 Upcoming Movies That Aren't What You Think
8. It's Actually A Gen-Z Satire - Texas Chainsaw Massacre
You'd scarcely know it, but there's a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie due to hit Netflix in a mere matter of weeks, and it represents Hollywood's latest attempt at a major horror "requel" - a continuity-rejigging sequel that also acts as a soft reboot.
While the marketing seems to suggest that this new riff is basically going to deliver more of the same gory schlock, reliable leaker ViewerAnon has chimed in with some details that paint another picture altogether.
According to the leak, the movie appears to actually be a satirical horror film that takes aim at Gen-Z, when a group of liberal youngsters somehow "buy" a Texas town, evict the existing residents, and then get picked off by an indignant, older Leatherface who the audience is supposed to root for.
In a further strain for topicality, the final girl is apparently a school shooting survivor, and the film attempts to give the original protagonist, Sally Hardesty (Olwen Fouéré), the same badass treatment that Laurie Strode got in Halloween 2018.
While it's reasonable to have low expectations given that the original directors were replaced just a week into shooting and the Texas Chainsaw franchise doesn't exactly have a strong track record, this new take at least seems headed in a wild and ambitious - if possibly misguided - new direction.
