9. We're Over The Whole Slasher Thing - Halloween Reboot

The Lesson: Friday The 13th (2009)

A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th... nobody could get enough of these slasher franchises during the 1980s, but recent attempts to revive them have been almost exclusively forgettable.

The plight of the latter, which was given the glossy remake treatment in 2009, is proof the concept of an invincible masked killer slaughtering horny teens has died a death.

For all of the money Paramount invested in its Friday the 13th remake, Jason Voorhees's umpteenth comeback was never going to be anything more than a tired retread across his old stomping ground of Camp Crystal Lake.

Seen as Hollywood is apparently incapable of getting with the times, more of these slasher revivals are in the pipeline, including Danny McBride's Halloween reboot.

Although McBride has enlisted the services of series mastermind John Carpenter for his return of Michael Myers, he seems blissfully unaware that the horror icons of decades gone by rarely lend themselves well to modern times.
