10 Upcoming Movies That Have Ignored Major Mistakes

5. Going Cheap On The CGI - Greyhound

The Mistake

It's never that smart to bet against Tom Hanks, but it's tough to deny that his new war movie Greyhound - which he also wrote, in fact - looks rather on the sloppy side.

In particular, the film's visual effects during its explosive naval action sequences look not good, to be kind.

Given the rather modest $50.3 million budget for a film of this scale, it seems like Sony short-handed the production and should've injected extra cash into its VFX allocation.

The Lesson

We have an excellent equivalent example in 2018's submarine thriller Hunter Killer, which hit screens with a price tag of just $40 million despite featuring extensive sequences of submarine warfare - and the results spoke for themselves.

Hell, even the more recent war movie Midway, which cost $100 million, couldn't help but avoid looking like a video game cutscene half the time.

It's telling that neither of these films were commercial successes, and clearly, if Hollywood wants to lure audiences in to these high-concept war flicks, it's worth investing some extra dough in the CGI.
