10 Upcoming Movies That Mean The Death Of Cinema

6. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon II: The Green Legend

Release Date: August 28, 2015 Perhaps more than any other movie on this list, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon II: The Green Destiny genuinely marks the downfall of cinema - and for reasons more interesting than "it's a sequel we don't need" or "it means Adam Sandler gets to make another film." Because Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon II: The Green Legend predicts the death of cinema literally - it is a motion length feature film produced by Netflix, and one that will play exclusively on their service and not in standard theatres anywhere (there will be a small number of IMAX screenings, according to Netflix, but that's all). Netflix's decision to move into moviemaking is industry-transforming, of course; the idea of the "cinema" and all its traditions are being challenged and reduced to less and less as the years go by, and more companies are sure to take Netflix's lead on this one - especially if Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon II is a success. Nobody is quite sure why Netflix opted for a belated sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon as their first feature film, but - rest assured - this is the first sign of a coming apocalypse for cinema as we know it. That doesn't mean this won't be good, though.
