The Film
Keanu Reeves' most surprisingly brilliant recent character comes back for the most inevitable (and slightly disappointing) sequel of 2017.
Why Not Watch It?
Because the original was too good, and this sequel has Taken 2 written all over it. It may sound ridiculous to write off a follow-up to such brilliance as John Wick without seeing it, but I've been burned before and this looks so ominous it's scary.
The problem with hyper-extending films like this (as with the Taken franchise) is that it organically guarantees diminished returns because it ruins the spirit of the original. John Wick was about an assassin forced out of retirement for one last job because of extreme circumstances: the sequel sees the same thing happen. Cumulatively, it's going to start looking like Wick's conviction about retiring wasn't all that real in the first place.
And wouldn't you know it, a third film is already in the offing. It's going to be Taken all over again.
