In order for viewers to invest in a character, whether that character is a hero or villain, there needs to be some form of motive to behind their actions. In the case of Mr Freeze, the motive behind the criminal activities are almost unique, in that they are spurred on by the love of another human being.

Once a brilliant scientist, set on finding a cure for the his wife Nora's seemingly incurable disease, Victor Fries was involved in a lab accident which severely mutated his body; forcing him to live his life in a containment suit in order to keep his body at sub-zero temperatures. Utilising his brilliant mind to create a Freeze Gun, Mr Freeze took to a life of crime in order to fund his ongoing research, in hopes that he may one day cure Nora, and release her from the cryogenic stasis in which she lies.

One of the more tragic stories in the DC Universe, Mr Freeze's unfortunate tale is one that audiences of the DC Extended Universe could easily buy into. While one may not agree with his actions, it often seems unfair to judge Mr Freeze at times, knowing why he does what he does. This could easily make for an extremely accessible character for fans to watch. Arnold Schwarzenegger's over-the-top performance as Mr Freeze in the almost universally-panned 'Batman & Robin' may still be a sour memory for some, but a new, fresh interpretation of the Mr Freeze character could help to wipe that memory clean, and instead portray the tragic story of this criminal to a whole new audience.
