10 Wasted Star Wars Characters That Deserved Better
5. The Bounty Hunters
Not one of these characters got the recognition they deserved. It's safe to assume that bounty hunters in the Star Wars galaxy aren't just picked at random, and Darth Vader wouldn't settle for anything less than the best anyway. So why is only one of these characters shown to come even remotely close to doing what they were tasked to do?
When the Empire loses track of the Millennium Falcon, Darth Vader hires six bounty hunters to track it down. These bounty hunters - namely, Dengar, IG-88, Boba Fett, Bossk, 4-LOM and Zuckuss - all appear in a single scene outlining Vader's plans, and none of them are seen again afterwards aside from Boba Fett (though we'll cross THAT bridge when we get to it).
So, where did they go? Did they just give up? Sure, Fett comes out on top and eventually collects the bounty on Han Solo's head from Jabba the Hutt, but are we expected to believe that the others are okay with this? It's curious that these five hunters, clearly the best that money can buy, just disappear into thin air. And although their stories see some well-deserved development in subsequent Expanded Universe material, it's rather underwhelming that the movie saga didn't really lay much of a foundation for these later tales.
To think that viewers were deprived of seeing all those potential space battles. What a missed opportunity.
