10 Wasted Star Wars Characters That Deserved Better
3. Boba Fett
The undisputed poster boy for Star Wars characters with wasted potential, Boba Fett is the bounty hunter we all remember fondly, but never quite understood why.
Like the other aforementioned bounty hunters, Boba Fett is hired to track down the Millennium Falcon in The Empire Strikes Back. Cornering them on Bespin, he receives Han Solo's carbonite-frozen body to take to Jabba the Hutt, whom Han is in debt to.
On Tatooine, Han is rescued by Luke, Leia, Chewbacca and Lando, but they are captured and sentenced to execution on Jabba's Sail Barge. When a fight ensues, Boba Fett jetpacks over to the prisoners in order to subdue them, an action that would serve to seal his fate.
Han, temporarily blinded by the carbonite, drives a stick unknowingly into Boba's jetpack, which sends him flying into the side of the Sail Barge and tumbling down into the mouth of the Sarlacc, where, as legend has it, he'll spend the next thousand years being slowly digested.
It's an impactful scene, but it really adds insult to injury that a character who has already had very little screen time is suddenly finished off by a man who can't even see. Naturally, the films are done with him after that, and although his Expanded Universe return is now non-canon, perhaps a certain Disney+ show might provide the answers we seek...
