10 Ways Captain America: Civil War Will Set Up Avengers: Infinity War
3. Captain America Gets A Fake-Out Death
In addition to a main character getting offed for real, there's a lot of belief among fans that Captain America will get a fake-out death. Considering that Cap is famously assassinated in the Civil War comic, it seems way too obvious to just regurgitate that plot line without a sneaky twist. After all, the MCU's treatment of The Mandarin confirms above all else that they're not afraid to deviate heavily from the source material. So, Cap could very well be killed at the end of the film, but he almost certainly won't be gone for good. Expect him to be resurrected with the help of an Infinity Stone in Infinity War, perhaps at the end of Part 1 or the very beginning of Part 2. This fits in with our fairly cloudy knowledge of Chris Evans' Marvel contract and his own sentiments that he wishes to turn his attention to directing movies in the future. He gets a short break away from the Marvel limelight and can then return for one final bow as Cap before the mantle is handed off to someone else (probably Bucky, as Sebastian Stan has barely made a dent in his incredible nine-movie deal with Marvel). However, once they've played the back-from-the-dead card (which, to be fair, they really already have with Agent Coulson), it could set an awkward precedent and reduce the overall stakes of life-or-death battles in the MCU. This one needs to be handled with extreme care.
