10 Ways Phase 3 Could Ruin The Marvel Cinematic Universe

10. Splitting The Avengers Up Could Go Poorly

It can't be overstated quite how huge a hit The Avengers was for everybody involved. It smashed all box office records, gave director/co-writer Joss Whedon his first unqualified hit, and in the process cemented a new form of blockbuster franchise where every film was just a puzzle piece slotting into a larger (more profitable) mega-movie. Which means there's considerable anticipation for the follow up, with an obsessive amount of attention paid to the slowly churning marketing machine that spills out trailers with new scenes, new characters, and new plot points for fans to get all excited about. Age Of Ultron is a sure thing - even if it doesn't reach the heights of its predecessor, it's still going to make some considerable bank. Now, this is the point where Marvel might be getting a little to greedy. The plan is for the third Avengers film to be split into two, a tactic that has most recently been employed by studios adapting long-running (and profitable) franchises like Harry Potter, or the final seasons of TV shows like Mad Men. Could audiences be turned off by having to shell out twice for Avengers: Infinity War? And is there even enough story there?
