4. Hide Your Monsters In Plain Sight
Thankfully, we're really good at spotting trouble. People have an acute and sometimes overdeveloped sense of suspicion when it comes to others. A lot of common thugs follow predictable patterns, and the crazy irrational people announce their presence from a mile away. But not all of them. Someone can easily slip through the cracks. It could even be the meekest, most disarming person you know, maybe even someone that has charmed you and earned your trust. The truth is, if the Joker existed in real life, people would avoid him like the plague, except for the police, who would pick up his trail easier than Batman. No, a real life Joker would probably be a well-adjusted, likeable CEO. Someone that knows all the rules well enough to excel at them, and then completely break them only after his victims have given him their complete trust. It could be anyone. Someone you grew up with, or someone you've been married to for 20 years.
