1. An Open-Ended Conclusion
Heres one thing you can be sure of Star Wars Episode VIII wont wrap up any important plotlines. Its the second film in the trilogy and will leave plenty of threads dangling for Colin Trevorrows Episode IX. As with The Empire Strikes Back, we'll end with the core characters on the brink of one big final adventure to bring down the First Order. We might have seen some great battles, duels and character development, but the story will be far from over by the time that the credits roll. If Rian Johnson does retool Episode V, the film may end before Rey has even met Snoke. As with Episode V, the main cast will probably be divided and weakened. Maybe one of the main crew will even be encased in carbonite and/or in need of rescuing, if Rian Johnson wants to go that far. Thats probably unlikely, since Return Of The Jedi isnt as universally loved as The Empire Strikes Back, so its doubtful that Lucasfilm will want to tee up Episode IX to be that similar to Episode VI. Regardless of how similar VIII is to V, lets just hope that its an entertaining middle chapter that gives us some interesting twists and turns along the way. Even if it does use familiar material, hopefully itll be reimagined interestingly. But if Episode IX has another Death Star in it we riot. What do you want to see in Episode VIII?
