10 Ways Suicide Squad Shows The DCEU Is Irreversibly F*cked
1. They're Unsure Of The Direction They're Going In
At the end of Suicide Squad Bruce Wayne visits Amanda Waller to get files on the metahumans he's bringing together to form the Justice League. But, hold on, doesn't he already have all that information from those files he spent the first half of Batman V Superman decrypting? Was Lex Luthor's research so crummy that, even thought he'd got everyone their own nice logos, he'd not actually tracked down these guys?
It's just one moment of many where the coherence within the universe doesn't gel, which plays into a wider uncertainty of the series' direction. Was Amanda Waller motivated to make Task Force X because of Superman's death or did she just used it to convince the government to sign off on it? That depends on which scene you're watching. Is Flash already fully active, taking down bank robbers, despite being a convenience store vigilante months previously? And what's the betting that Suicide Squad 2 won't actually be JL V SS?
It feels like they're doing whatever takes their fancy in the moment, with no sense of real direction to the overarching narrative. If you're going to throw something out there, you really need to pay it off. This is where some of the weaker Marvel movies stumble, and it's not a trait DC should be copying.
