This film seems to be a self-contained Batman and Superman story that offers glimpses into the deeper world detonating under the surface.
Despite the rumor mill populating the story with every DC character under the sun, the only character that seems to have an expanded role is Wonder Woman. While the exact size of her role remains a mystery, the rest of the characters that could be teased would most likely be small cameos that won't intrude on the narrative.
The DC Cinematic Universe will grow out of this film's Easter eggs, references and cameos. This is fan service at its best, and if done correctly it can satisfy and intrigue everyone without diminishing the story.
Victor Stone can make an appearance as a football player, before the accident that turns him into Cyborg.
Aquaman can make his way to the surface to confront Superman, curious at the idea that there are other powerful beings on the planet.
The Joker can make an appearance in a haunting flashback as Bruce remembers the infamous murder of Jason Todd.
There are rumors of this story taking place two years after Man of Steel, that's two years for metahumans to emerge from the shadows of Superman's collision with Zod. The idea that this universe can organically grow as a consequence of Superman's arrival is a brilliant notion.
