10 Ways That The Marvel Cinematic Universe Has Ruined Cinema
4. Movies That Nobody Really Wants
There's a sense of unjustified hype that goes hand in hand with the notion of a Cinematic Universe that means that movies that nobody actually wants (like, deep down in their very souls) are put into production. Though Ant-Man, Captain Marvel and Inhumans could very well add a lot to the MCU in the long run, did anybody really care about these characters getting their own movie treatments before they were announced? A few people, sure. But generally speaking? Uh-uh. So, inspired by the MCU, studios such as Warner Bros. are devoting good time and money to rendering superhero flicks that - for all intents and purposes - just don't need to exist. Aquaman has spent the sum of his existence as a DC comic book character targeted for criticism, and now he's getting his own flick? Shazam, too? Does the world really need a movie honing in on - all things considered - a relatively obscure character like Shazam? Now, it almost seems as though certain studios are rushing to get out as many properties as possible in as short a time as possible - that way the inevitable "team-up" flicks (the real money-makers) can find themselves in theatres a lot sooner, right? But think about all the non-essential pictures that people are going to have to sit through in order to make sense of one Justice League movie. Is it really worth the time, effort and energy required?
