10 Ways The DC Extended Universe Could End
6. Kingdom Come Takes The Heroes To Retirement
Although Kingdom Come is an Elseworlds tale set outside of mainline DC continuity, it has all the makings of the perfect endgame for the DC Extended Universe.
The story is set in a dystopian future where the heroes have lost touch with humanity. Superman has turned his back on the world and there's a division between the Metahumans that is threatening to escalate into a world-ending superhero war.
A Kingdom Come adaptation would have everything: epic hero-on-hero conflicts, moral ambiguity and scenes that challenge the audience to forget everything they know about Superman. The mini-series treats Supes as an outdated relic from an idealist age, which touches on some of the themes the DCEU has already explored.
If the movie series was to reenact a storyline like this, it won't be for a long time, but it could potentially serve as a future Justice League sequel. Let's say the first Justice League brought the curtain down on the series' equivalent of the MCU's Phase One; Kingdom Come could bookend Phase Three as a rounded conclusion.
There are a number of logical reasons to adapt this classic storyline, and chief among them is that it would take the DCEU's iconic heroes to retirement, depicting them at the end of their crimefighting careers before leaving them in a good place.
