10 Ways To Dramatically Improve The Marvel Cinematic Universe

5. No More Massacring Of Source Material

mandarin-iron-man-3 Little changes to make characters more suitable for the big screen are fine - and indeed expected - but what Marvel Studios did to the Mandarin in Iron Man 3 was unacceptable (for anyone who, like me, was genuinely a fan of the source material). He was completely butchered, and anyone who went in to that film without spoilers and whose favourite comic book character was the Mandarin would have left feeling devastated - because he essentially wasn't in the movie at all. There's no doubt that the movie did fantastically well at the box office - but that was based on the existing success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Iron Man movies in particular, as well as the fact that it was the first post-Avengers movie and the first movie of phase 2. One has to wonder just how successful the movie would have been without this horrible twist. The Marvel comic books, as a source material, are a sacred entity to millions of fans worldwide. Those fans expect and accept that some changes have to be made for the purposes of on-screen adaptability - they do not expect the changes to be so drastic and unnecessary (if the Mandarin wasn't suitable for the big screen, why not just not use him full stop?). Less massacring of the source material in future, Please Marvel - you'll keep the fans a lot happier that way.
