10 Weird Early Appearances By Iconic Film Characters

4. Boba Fett's Holiday Special

The Star Wars Holiday Special gave us a lot, even if we're unlikely to ever see the rightly-reviled TV show that even George "The Prequels Were All My Idea" Lucas has blocked from getting a re-release or second transmission. We got a song sung by Princess Leia (the classic Star Wars theme with added lyrics), the addition of the Wookie's "life day" to the already pretty stuffed Star Wars mythology, plus animated interludes. It's an absolute shambles, and hilarious to watch with modern eyes, when the legacy of the franchise has been locked down hard, and anything that doesn't meet Lucasfilm's exacting standards is rejected. We're not sure that Chewbacca's family - his father Itchy, his wife Malla, and his son Lumpy - have remained canon since their introduction here. One of the more surprising debuts, and one that definitely has stuck, in the Star Wars Holiday Special was a certain helmet-wearing, jet-pack-clad bounty hunter. Despite appearing only briefly in Return Of The Jedi (and being dispatched in the most embarrassing way ever) Boba Fett quickly became a fan favourite amongst the original trilogy's supporting cast, his backstory being fleshed out considerably in the prequels. And it all started in the Holiday Special, during one of those animated segments, where the Millenium Falcon crash lands on an alien planet and the extremely chatty Fett offers to help Luke, Han and Chewie get back in the air; obviously, whilst planning to sell them out to the Empire. The colour scheme's a bit off, and the voice is odd, but it's definitely Boba. But like an off-brand, bootleg Boba.
