There's method acting and then there's Daniel Day Lewis method acting; a form of immersion that pretty much sees the Oscar-winning sensation completely disappear for the duration of a movie shoot, with the personality he is tasked with bringing to life largely taking over.

Over the years, Day Lewis has taken "going the extra mile" to near-unprecedented lengths, refusing to leave a wheelchair for his work on My Left Foot, building canoes for The Last of the Mohicans, and spending 48 hours in solitary confinement in the lead-up to In the Name of the Father being just a few notable examples of his frightening commitment.

But perhaps the most surreal instance of Day Lewis embracing the part to the extreme came during the making of Lincoln when not only did the actor only respond to "Mr. President", but he also only communicated to other cast members as the iconic figure when off set too.

Despite Abe not being known for his texting abilities, that still wouldn't stop Day Lewis signing off all of his texts to colleagues with "Yours, A." when buzzing each other on the phone. Sally Fields also reportedly repaid the favour by responding as his wife, Mary.
