8. Melissa McCarthy Destroyed A Film Critic Obsessed With Her Weight - Identity Thief

2013's Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman-starring comedy Identity Thief may not have been a particularly good movie, though veteran film critic Rex Reed used his review as an excuse to get extremely nasty about McCarthy's weight.

In his review, Reed called McCarthy "cacophonous, tractor-sized," a "female hippo," and "a gimmick comedian who has devoted her short career to being obese and obnoxious with equal success."

Reed was widely lambasted by the generic public, actors, and even fellow film critics for needlessly criticising McCarthy's physical appearance in a review about her film, and a few weeks later McCarthy decided to snap back at him. She said:

"I felt really bad for someone who is swimming in so much hate... I just thought, that's someone who's in a really bad spot, and I am in such a happy spot. I laugh my head off every day with my husband and my kids who are mooning me and singing me songs."

If the best revenge is living well, then McCarthy truly seems to be doing that. Reed, for his part, remained indignant, insisting that the outrage was manufactured to drum up publicity for the film, and adding, "Don't make me a villain… She's crying all the way to the bank!"
