10 Weirdest Cameos In Superman Movies
1. Marlon Brando - Superman Returns
But the weirdest ever cameo in a Superman movie has to unquestionably go to the late, great Marlon Brando, who appears in Superman Returns as Superman's father Jor-El...more than two years after his death.
Brando of course played the role quite brilliantly in the 1978 Donner movie, and Warner Bros. received permission from Brando's estate to repurpose unused footage from that film for Bryan Singer's new one.
By combining these discarded takes with cutting edge CGI technology, Brando was able to "reprise" the role of Jor-El at the Fortress of Solitude.
Though digital recreations of departed actors have become increasingly common in recent years, back in 2006 this was still quite the mind-melting achievement, even if Brando's face was of course cleverly obscured through the various crystalline structures within the Fortress.
Nevertheless, the effect was executed wonderfully, giving audiences a memorable and respectful final glimpse of an all-time acting great.
Of the task of sifting through all of Brando's unused takes, director Bryan Singer said, "We had access to all of the Brando footage that was shot. There was unused footage that had Brando reciting poems, trailing off subject and swearing like a sailor."
