10 Weirdest Horror Movies You've Never Heard Of
5. Slugs (1988)
Based on the novel of the same name by Shaun Hutson, Slugs sees a sleepy town overrun with vicious slugs borne from toxic waste. The slugs kill the locals in increasingly grisly ways, offering up some gory special effects and very dark humour in the process.
In horror, there have been many bizarre sources of murder and rampage, including a killer couch and a runaway tire, but Slugs takes inspiration from the absolute extreme, creating horror out of the most unassuming and unthreatening of creatures. Slugs is nuts, but also doesn't take itself too seriously and manages to craft some genuinely horrifying and unsettling sequences.
Though over 30 years old, the graphics and practical effects (there's lots and lots of blood) are still just as biting and squirm-inducing as they were back in the '80s. Slugs is a B-movie monster horror with no issues accepting its strangest aspects, and if you're after a bit of mindless '80s fun, it couldn't be better.
