10 Weirdly Feel-Good Horror Movies With Happy Endings
5. Get Out
The Movie:
Black
photographer Chris finds himself living in a nightmare after he goes to meet
his Caucasian girlfriend Rose Armitage’s parents for the first time in wealthy
all-white liberal suburbia.
You see, the Armitage family are nowhere near as ‘liberal’ or ‘open-minded’ as they like to portray and their seeming naively offensive fascination with black bodies masks a far more disturbing truth.
They’re part of a cult-like group of weird white folk who auction off black people so they can have their brains transplanted into their bodies when their own start to ail and their black help – housekeeper Georgina and groundskeeper Walter – are previous victims of this ritual, their bodies now home to the brains of Rose’s grandmother and grandfather.
With the help of his TSA agent best mate Rod, Chris susses out what’s afoot and must escape the suburban hellhole before gets auctioned off himself.
The Happy Ending: After killing his way out of the Armitage household, Chris is pursued by Walter and a gun-toting Rose but manages to awaken the real Walter using his camera flash who shoots Rose in the gut before turning the gun on himself.
Just as it looks like Chris is safe we see what looks to be a police car approach whereupon the bleeding Rose cries out for help as Chris dejectedly puts up his hands.
We’re fully expecting Chris to be arrested at the very least if not shot on sight by a trigger-happy cop before it turns out it’s not the police but his BFF Rod to the rescue and off they drive as Rose bleeds out – a wholly satisfying ending that manages to subvert our expectations too.
