10 Wild Ideas For The Hulk In Phase 5

As is his wont, Kevin Feige hasn’t given much away about the new She-Hulk series they’re developing for Phase 5 and Disney+. However, one thing he has let slip is that this series will represent a significant departure for Marvel’s usual style.

That sounds like they may well be leaning into the fun loving lawyer aspects of the character for more of a comedy-drama approach than the usual Netflix/Titans style of hyper-violent superhero psychodrama, the traditional action adventure of Agents Of SHIELD or the more teen-oriented slugfests n’ angst formula of Cloak And Dagger or Runaways.

Jennifer Walters has always been a different kind of superhero, ahead of her time. The lack of a secret identity (She-Hulk decides early on to stay in her Hulk form, in which she retains her intellect but gains confidence and charisma along with the giant green muscles) coupled with a decision to continue practicing law meant that the comic book regularly saw Jen, seven foot tall and bright green, dressed in a power suit and running cases in open court.

Of course, superheroes sometimes need lawyers too. When Bruce Banner is sued, having been accused of having accidentally knocked down an apartment building, he gets in touch with his cousin to build a defence.

More for fans of Ruffalo’s ‘Smart Hulk’ persona in Endgame than for anyone looking to move the character further forward, this guest appearance gives the She-Hulk show a ’special two part episode’ to work with and allows Ruffalo’s ruffled charisma one more moment in the spotlight.
