Proving that you can fool some people all the time, Ouija comes from the production company that brought us the remakes of The Hitcher, Friday The 13th and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and was made in conjunction with Hasbro, who also helped perpetrate the Transformers movies. Instead of staying away, audiences flocked to this would-be horror movie, turning it into a $100 million worldwide smash.

Ouija isn’t credited as a remake, but it’s difficult to tell because it’s exactly the same as every other kids-with-a-ouija-board movie you’ve ever seen. When their friends start dying, some teenagers that belong in a Scooby Doo cartoon resolve to destroy the board. They apparently succeed, until a coda reveals that the board is alive and well. The End.

Director Stiles White must’ve been Platinum Dunes’ remote control unit on the movie because even though he shows some visual flair, the movie is just as soulless, flat and oppressive as every other movie off the company’s production line. Ouija 2, directed by Mike Flangan, is due in cinemas this Halloween so get ready to boycott your local multiplex.
