10 Women Who Could Direct Wonder Woman

2. Michelle MacLaren

When Patty Jenkins was kicked off Thor: The Dark World, Marvel turned to Alan Taylor. This appointment had nothing to do with Taylor's previous movies (small scale festival pleasing indies) and everything to do with his work on TV's Game of Thrones. Marvel hoped that the director's work on the large scale TV fantasy hit would bring a realistic warrior fantasy feel to the space-viking sequel. If Warners and DC want to do the same for their Amazonian warrior hero then they could do worse than look to Taylor's fellow Thrones director MacLaren. Having made her name as executive producer and director in the latter days of The X-Files, MacLaren has become widely regarded as one of the top directors in television. A regular on both Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad, on which she is also executive producer, MacLaren has worked on arguably the two best regarded TV shows of the last few years. As Breaking Bad's producer MacLaren has won back to back Outstanding Drama Series Emmy awards as well as a pair of nominations for her work as director and she has recently signed a two year deal with HBO, so she has pretty much conquered TV with film likely the next destination. Her four Game of Thrones episodes - The Bear and the Maiden Fair, Second Sons, Oathkeeper, and First of His Name - all show off her ability with big scale fantasy, but also are some of the best stories for warrior woman Brienne of Tarth, indicating that MacLaren would have no problem handling another warrior woman: Diana of Themyscira.
