10 Women Who Could Direct Wonder Woman

4. Patty Jenkins

Jenkins won a lot of critical plaudits (and a Best Actress Oscar for her leading lady Charlize Theron) with her last film, Monster, dramatising the life of serial killer Aileen Wuornos. In the ten years since then, Jenkins has been linked with a number of major projects but has yet to make another feature. That does not mean that she's been idle in the mean time however. Jenkins' ongoing work for TV proves she has what it takes to direct interesting stories and complex heroines. Most notably she was nominated for an Emmy and won a Directors Guild award for the pilot episode of the US version of crime series The Killing. The main reason why Jenkins is a likely choice for Wonder Woman, however, is in her attachment to Marvel's Thor sequel The Dark World. Jenkins and Marvel fell out during the film's pre-production and she was dropped from the project over "creative differences". That movie's lead actress Natalie Portman was reportedly deeply disappointed with that decision, suggesting she hoped Jenkins could bring a more interesting, three-dimensional quality to the movie's female roles that was sadly lacking in the finished product. Up until that point, however, Marvel clearly thought Jenkins was the right person to bring a bit of realism to a story that mashed up ancient mythology and superhero fantasy, much like Wonder Woman would. Indeed, it has been rumoured that while Marvel and Jenkins did not see eye to eye over the Thor sequel, the studio are keeping her in mind for future projects. If DC don't pick her up for Wonder Woman, then, don't bet against a Jenkins helmed Captain Marvel.
