7. Elektra (2005)
You have to wonder what Fox was thinking when they opted to greenlight a spin-off of Ben Affleck's thoroughly underwhelming superhero pic
Daredevil, given that it hardly lit up the box office or went over particularly well with audiences. Nevertheless, Jennifer Garner was one of the film's more alluring elements, and if nothing else, proved she can go toe-to-toe with her male counterparts. Still, that did little to make
Elektra any less painful, for it is that rare film that features ninjas and yet is still unbearably boring to watch. Add to that the clear lack of enthusiasm on the part of Garner, who was contractually obliged to make the film, and it combines with poorly-directed action sequences, horrendous visual effects, and a snoozy, unfussed plot to make this one of the worst superhero pics of all time. The film's butchery of the source material's fighting force The Hand particularly upset fans, and the plot, which saw Elektra resurrected to do their bidding predictably ends with her growing a brain - as well as a conscience - and deciding that these people probably won't deserve to die. Garner has all the necessary screen presence needed to make the role work - even if she doesn't have too much of a physical likeness to the comic book counterpart - but when the script and direction are this poor, she never really had a chance.
