10 Worst Effects In Sci-Fi Movies
8. The Matrix: Reloaded
As with our last movie, The Matrix: Revolutions ultimately has a wide range of visual effects shots, many of which are pulled of extremely well. The problem that Reloaded experiences however is that it is much, much more inconsistent.
Released only four years after the visceral original Matrix film - which used cutting-edge film making techniques to elevate the whole experience and make it feel as if you as the audience are being pulled into the digital age - Reloaded fails to learn from anything that worked about its predecessor.
While many of the VFX elements used in this movie were incredibly advanced (they actually completely recreated Hugo Weaving's head in 3D!), the issue is that they were not utilised in a way that looked even remotely visually appealing.
The best example of this within the film would be the fight between Neo and the several dozen Agent Smith clones that attempt to dog-pile him into submission.
As one of the main action set-pieces in this movie this scene should have looked as if it had almost the entire budget spent on it, but the finished product ended up as something akin to a clunky PS2 quick-time event.
